The Penobscot Bay Chamber of Commerce is closing.

In a Monday letter to members, the chamber said it would cease operations Friday, according to MaineBiz.

The PenBay Chamber faced a sharp decline in revenue and falling membership, down to 400 from a peak of 1,000, MaineBiz reported.

The revenue drop was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This decision, though immensely difficult, comes after months of tireless efforts to navigate the challenges that have increasingly strained our organization,” the chamber said in its letter.

Beyond those challenges, the chamber was on its third leader just since 2022, according to MaineBiz.

The chamber was founded in 2011 to serve businesses in the Camden-Rockland area.
