There will be no school in the Bath area on Monday.
Regional School Unit 1 officials said in a brief social media post that classes have been canceled because of a “safety concern.”
Bath Police Chief Andrew Booth said the move came after a third-hand report that an unknown person made statements related to school safety, potentially involving the district’s schools.
But Booth said that officials are “skeptical about the validity of these statements.” Still, classes were canceled “out of an abundance of caution” as the investigation continues.
RSU 1 comprises Bath Middle School, Dike Newell School, Fisher Mitchell School, Morse High School, Phippsburg Elementary School, Woolwich Central School and Bath Tech, according to the district’s website.
