Two Lincolnville homes were badly damaged in separate fires over a 12-hour period early Friday.
No one was injured in either blaze.
The first fire was reported at around midnight at a newly constructed home on Old Stone Road, just off Route 1. The residents were able to escape after the fire started in its chimney, according to Chief Don Fullington of the Lincolnville Fire Department. Firefighters had to return to the home later Friday morning when the flames briefly rekindled.

The second fire was reported just before 8 a.m. at a home on Mass Pike, an unpaved residential road that ends at Coleman Pond. That fire was contained by 9:40 a.m., but the home was a total loss, Fullington said. Its sole resident was safe as she was visiting a neighbor when the blaze started.
The cause of the second fire is unclear.
Multiple midcoast fire departments provided mutual aid to assist the Lincolnville agency.
