A Spruce Head man has died from injuries he suffered in a vehicle crash on Route 1 in Northport on Wednesday morning.
Cody Arsenault, 31, was transported by ambulance and helicopter for medical attention, and he passed away Thursday, according to Lt. Cody Laite of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported shortly before 10:30 a.m., after Arsenault allegedly went into the opposite lane to pass a vehicle that had slowed down to make a righthand turn, according to police. The 2006 Subaru Outback he was driving south then collided head-on with a 2024 Freightliner truck with an enclosed semi-trailer that was heading north. Arsenault was ejected from the vehicle.
The crash closed Route 1 near the Northport-Belfast border for several hours on Wednesday. The driver of the truck, Alejandro Sicaju, 51, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, suffered minor injuries. The truck belonged to Andersen Windows & Doors.
An online fundraiser started to help Arsenault’s family had raised more than $15,000 as of Friday morning.
