The Maine Marine Patrol is searching for a man who went missing after a fishing trip last Sunday.

Robert Stolt, 22 of Augusta, had been fishing on the Kennebec River Sunday when one of his dogs leaped from the boat and went overboard, News Center Maine reported. He then reportedly got into the water to try to rescue the dog.

A caller saw what appeared to be two people in the water near Lines Island and informed 911 at around 2:10 p.m. Sunday.

A search for Stolt on Sunday lasted until around 11 p.m., but was suspended due to low visibility, according to News Center. The search picked up at around 5 a.m. Monday, and includes Marine Patrol boats and aircraft.

A woman who had been in the boat when Stolt went overboard and the two dogs that had been on the fishing trip were brought to shore safely. The woman, who has not been identified, was treated for minor injuries after making it to shore.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Maine State Police, Marine Patrol Underwater Recovery Team, local fire and police departments, and the Maine Forest Service are assisting in the search for Stolt.
